Frequently asked questions
- can you handle more than one reception point or a larger office?
Yes. For bigger jobs we bring in extra hands. Tell us how many reception points you have and the dates, and we will plan it before we go to the market.
- who looks after the flowers once they are delivered?
Every delivery comes with a verbal explanation of how to care for the arrangement and what will happen over the following days, plus an A5 care card with bullet-point instructions. Any question goes directly to Sally or Ton.
- can you deliver office reception flowers across Melbourne?
Yes. Sally or Ton delivers every order personally across Melbourne, with no couriers. Tell us the address and the delivery day and we will confirm the details.
- do office reception flowers have to be white?
No. White is the safe default, not the only considered choice. Pink orchids in front of a lit logo wall, or a tall mix of green gladioli and pink roses on a timber table, both read as confident and professional.
- what size should a reception arrangement be?
Size it to the surface and the wall behind it. A tall, upright arrangement suits a narrow table against a wall. A low, round bowl suits a coffee table in a lounge, because people can still talk across it. We choose the shape after reading the room.
- how often should office reception flowers be changed?
It depends on the flowers and the room. Many offices choose a weekly delivery, which is the arrangement we have supplied to offices over the years. One-off deliveries suit a launch or a client visit. Tell us about your reception and we will recommend a rhythm that suits the space.
- how much notice do you need for peonies?
We can almost always manage same-day delivery, but a few days’ notice gets you the best stems and lets us talk through the brief properly. We never pre-order, so we buy for your order at the Melbourne Flower Market.
- can i order peonies for an office, home or event?
Yes. We do corporate flowers, private home flowers and event flowers across Melbourne, and for bigger jobs we bring in extra hands. Tell us the space, the date and the colours you already have.
- which flowers pair well with peonies in spring?
Keep it to one or two partners. In late October, lilac while it lasts, viburnum, blossom branches and waratah all sit well with peonies. We choose from what is best at the market that morning.
- do peonies arrive open or closed?
They arrive as tight buds and open over several days once they are in water. When we hand over an arrangement, Sally or Ton explains what will happen over the following days, and every delivery comes with an A5 care card with bullet-point instructions.
- why could i not get peonies in september?
Peonies are a late-spring flower. In September the market has tulips, daffodils and wattle instead, so we pointed people to those and told them peonies were not ready yet.
- when is peony season in melbourne?
Peony season in Melbourne runs from October into December. Before October, peonies are out of their natural window, and we will tell you when something is out of season rather than pretend otherwise.
- Do you work with agents and stylists on repeat campaigns?
Yes. Agents and stylists who work with us campaign after campaign trust us to read what each property needs. Ask about a standing arrangement for your next listing.
- Who delivers and places the flowers?
Sally or Ton delivers and places every order personally, ahead of your photographer or open home. There are no couriers, ever.
- How far ahead should I book flowers for a sale campaign?
We can almost always accommodate short notice, but a few days gives a better result and a lot less stress. We confirm the brief three days out, before we buy anything, so nothing is bought for an arrangement you have not signed off.
- Do home staging flowers have to be white?
No. White is a safe default and sometimes the right call, but a single strong colour can make a neutral home feel warmer and more memorable. We choose against the home’s own palette. Our open home flowers guide covers when each works.
- Do I need flowers in every room?
No. After the first install, agents trust us to focus on the rooms that matter most rather than adding flowers everywhere. Restraint is the skill.
- What do home staging flowers actually do for a sale?
They help buyers picture themselves living in the home. Flowers add warmth, draw the eye to a feature and give a room a clear focal point. One considered arrangement does this better than flowers on every surface.
- do I have to choose the flowers myself?
No. Tell us about the room, the mood and your brief, and we choose from what is best at the market. Trusting the florist to read the space usually gives the most surprising result.
- what flowers suit a Melbourne home in October?
Spring stems such as tulips, ranunculus, sweet peas, poppies, magnolia, iris and blossom branches, with garden roses returning. Lilac is only around in September and October, so it is worth asking for now.
- can I have the same arrangement every time, or something different?
Either. Some clients want the same calm, considered arrangement every visit. Others want something different each time. Neither is wrong, and we style to whichever suits your home.
- who delivers my home flowers?
Sally or Ton, personally. Every order is designed and delivered by us, with no couriers involved.
- how far ahead should I order flowers for my home?
We can almost always accommodate same-day delivery, but you will not necessarily get the freshest or best stems available. A few days notice gives a better result. We also confirm the brief three days out, before we buy anything from the market.
- what is home flower styling?
It is designing flowers for a specific room rather than choosing a bouquet from a catalogue. We look at the light, the surface, the mirror or window behind it and the mood you want, then choose stems and scale to suit.
- How much do race-day flowers cost?
Ready-to-place office and home flowers start from $450 + GST, styled race-day celebrations from $1,500 + GST, and marquee and hospitality flowers from $3,000 + GST. Individual client gift arrangements start from $200.
- Do you deliver race-day flowers to offices and homes?
Yes. Sally or Ton personally create and deliver every order across Melbourne, with no couriers. Delivery is quoted according to location, and on-site styling can be added.
- How far ahead should I order Melbourne Cup Day flowers?
Allow at least one week for office and private-home orders. Styled events, marquees and hospitality suites should be booked several weeks ahead, because spring racing bookings are limited each day.
- What colours work for Derby Day flowers?
Derby Day’s dress code is black and white and its flower is the blue cornflower, so white and cream flowers with deep green foliage work best, with blue used as a small accent rather than the main colour.
- What is the official flower of Melbourne Cup Day?
The yellow rose. Each carnival day has its own: blue cornflower for Derby Day, yellow rose for Cup Day, pink rose for Oaks Day and, in 2026, red poppy for Champions Stakes Day.
- When is Melbourne Cup Day 2026?
Lexus Melbourne Cup Day is Tuesday 3 November 2026. It sits in the middle of the four-day Melbourne Cup Carnival at Flemington, which runs from Derby Day on Saturday 31 October to Champions Stakes Day on Saturday 7 November.
- What information does a florist actually need for a private event brief?
Guest numbers, table shape and length, the venue’s lighting, and whether the space needs to read as one scene from the door or hold up in close-up photos — palette and style follow from those practical details.
- Should the bar area have its own flowers, separate from the dining table?
Yes — guests spend a meaningful part of the night at the bar and lounge areas, and a tall installation there does real work for the atmosphere of the whole event, not just the seated tables.
- Do private event flowers cost more than a wedding brief?
It depends on scale, not the occasion — a long private dinner for 20 with one continuous table runner can often cost less than several separate large centrepieces, because a runner uses stems more efficiently.
- How far in advance should I book private event flowers in Melbourne?
As early as you can for the date itself, but because we buy at the wholesale market the morning of your event, the flower brief can stay flexible right up until a few days out.
- What should I buy if I have no idea what they like?
Pick one of two lanes: classic red roses (safe, iconic, always works) or a moody mixed bouquet (more modern, editorial, a bit “I have taste”). If you’re still stuck, start with the full range of Valentine’s Day flowers Melbourne.
- Can I order closer to 14 February?
Yes — we’ll still take orders up to and including 14 February. If you want the closest match to the product photos, place your order by 10 February (that’s your “best chance” cut-off). After that, we’ll keep the same colour story and overall vibe, but specific varieties may need to change depending on market availability.
- How do I keep Valentine's flowers fresh in the heat?
Top up the water daily, keep them out of direct sun and away from heaters/aircon blasts, and don’t leave them in a hot room or car. If you’re sending to an apartment building, make sure concierge/reception can accept the delivery so they’re not left sitting in warm conditions.
- Should I choose gift wrapped or a vase?
Gift wrapped is perfect if the recipient already has vases at home (or you want that “unwrap the moment” feel). Vase is the easiest option for busy people — it arrives ready to go, no scrambling for a vase, and it helps with longevity during Melbourne summer.
- What if they're not home?
Ideally, send flowers to a workplace or make sure someone can receive them. If the recipient isn’t home and there’s nowhere safe to leave them (out of sun/heat), we may need to re-deliver — and re-delivery fees apply. If you’re unsure, choose a delivery window where someone will definitely be there. You can do this on the checkout page.
- Can dogwood be used before it's in full bloom?
Yes — its branching structure works beautifully whether in full bloom or still showing bare branch, which helps stretch a design across the whole season.
- Does hydrangea hold up well after delivery?
Yes — it’s one of the most reliable spring flowers, with full, generous heads that hold their shape well once delivered.
- Why is lilac considered a signature spring flower?
Its deep, dusty purple colour and distinctive scent have made it a spring staple for centuries, and in Victorian flower language it symbolised first love and the start of the new season.
- What are the best flowers for a spring bouquet?
Lilac for colour and scent, snowball or hydrangea for volume, and dogwood for line and height — together they cover every mood a spring bouquet needs.
- Do I need to know exactly what I want before booking?
No — brief us on tone, vase size and setting, and we’ll handle the design. Letting your florist lead saves hours of second-guessing.
- When should I order my Christmas flowers?
Our pre-Christmas delivery window opens late November, timed so arrangements arrive hydrated and ready right when you need them — not too early, not too late.
- Which Christmas flowers hold up best in Melbourne's summer heat?
Proteas, banksia, leucospermum and gum hold their shape in the heat and dry into sculptural forms once the season’s over.
- What's the secret to a designer-looking Christmas arrangement?
Start with structure, not colour — build height, direction and movement first, then layer in colour and texture.
- Can arrangements be designed for a large cocktail party?
Yes — we’ve designed sculptural centrepieces for events of a hundred guests or more, built to hold presence on an island bench or entry table.
- What makes an arrangement feel "modern Christmas" rather than traditional?
Structured, textural pieces with negative space — burnt orange cymbidium orchids, silver foliage and tropical leaves — rather than a crowded, classic red-and-green look.
- How do I care for cymbidium orchids in an arrangement?
Trim stems daily with a fresh 45° cut, keep the vase water clean, avoid direct sunlight, and remove fading blooms to keep the arrangement balanced.
- How long do cymbidium orchids last as cut Christmas flowers?
With the right care they can last two weeks or more, which makes them ideal for entertaining through the festive season.
- Can wreaths be made to a particular style or brief?
Yes — every wreath starts with a story: where it’s going, who it’s for, and the feeling it should bring, from classic green to modern sculptural styles.
- How long will a fresh wreath last?
Handled gently and kept out of direct sun and heat, a fresh wreath will stay lush right through Christmas and New Year.
- What greenery works best for wreaths in a hot Melbourne Christmas?
We pair traditional pine, spruce and holly with hardy local foliage — seeded eucalyptus, bay leaf, magnolia and conifers — so the wreath holds up in the heat.
- How do you keep a Christmas wreath fresh in Melbourne's summer heat?
Hang it in the shade where possible, mist it with water every few days, and keep it away from air-conditioning vents indoors.
- What makes a luxury orchid bowl different from orchids in a pot?
Every component is chosen — taller and shorter phalaenopsis for layered height, a bowl with presence, a moss finish, and the correct substrate for drainage and airflow.
- Where should I position an orchid bowl at home?
Keep it away from heaters and harsh direct sun, with good airflow around the leaves, and rotate it every seven days for even bloom orientation.
- How often should I water a phalaenopsis orchid bowl?
Water sparingly, not deeply, and feel the substrate through the moss every few days rather than watering on a fixed schedule.
- How long do phalaenopsis orchids last?
With proper care they can stay in bloom for weeks and often months, unlike cut flowers that fade in days.
- Are autumn flowers good for gifts and events?
Yes — their deeper, moodier tones suit home flowers, thoughtful gifts, restaurant settings and small events, and they photograph beautifully.
- Why do you buy flowers to order rather than holding stock?
Quality can shift quickly in autumn depending on the weather, so we buy fresh for each order rather than forcing the same bunches day after day.
- What colour palettes are popular for autumn flowers in Melbourne?
Burgundy and blush, rust and toffee, plum and chocolate, creamy neutrals, and dusty pinks mixed with richer reds are the most requested.
- What autumn flowers are in season in Melbourne?
Dahlias, chrysanthemums, roses, hydrangeas, orchids, lisianthus and disbud chrysanthemums, plus textural foliage that suits the season.
- Can king proteas be used for both tables and entryways?
Yes — line three stems in low vases for a table runner, or use them in a tall urn with magnolia branches for a striking entry display.
- What flowers pair well with king proteas for a native Christmas look?
Eucalyptus, banksia, leucadendron, waratahs and flannel flowers all complement their bold, sculptural form.
- Why are they called "The Three Kings"?
We group three stems together — one upright, one open, one still in bud — for a sculptural trio that anchors a Christmas arrangement.
- How long do king proteas last as Christmas flowers?
With fresh water and a cool spot, king proteas typically last two to three weeks — well beyond the festive season.
- Can corporate flowers include a hamper or gift, not just an arrangement?
Yes — we can build hampers with local food and drink alongside or instead of flowers for VIP or milestone moments.
- Can you match our office's style or branding?
Yes — we look at the space first and build the arrangement to suit it, rather than sending a generic reception bouquet.
- Who actually delivers the flowers?
Sally or Ton, personally, every time — we don’t use couriers.
- Do you offer a corporate flower subscription, or one-off deliveries only?
Both — many corporate accounts run on a standing weekly or fortnightly brief, and we also handle one-off gifting like hampers or VIP arrangements for the same clients.
- Which Melbourne areas do you service?
We create and deliver corporate flowers across Melbourne, including Toorak, South Yarra, Armadale, Brighton, Moonee Ponds, Essendon, Richmond, Hawthorn and surrounding suburbs.
- Can the flowers be matched to our office or reception style?
Yes. We look at the room first: the scale, surface, light, traffic, business type and the impression the flowers need to make. The flowers should suit the space before they suit the budget.
- Do you buy flowers fresh each week?
Yes. We buy to order, choosing flowers around the room, the season and the agreed weekly spend. That means the arrangements are planned, fresh and made for the space rather than pulled from leftover stock.
- Do you supply the vases?
Yes. We supply the vase, deliver the flowers, place them in the agreed spot and handle the weekly changeover. You do not need to organise vessels, mechanics or flower care in-house.
- How much do weekly corporate flowers cost in Melbourne?
Weekly corporate flowers start from $160 per week for smaller reception desks and entry areas. Larger office, lobby and hotel-style arrangements usually start from $250 to $450 per week, depending on the scale of the room, flower selection and weekly changeover needs.
- Can you style flowers for apartment lobbies, offices and hotel foyers?
Yes. We create weekly corporate flowers for reception desks, office entries, apartment lobbies, hotel foyers, clinics, salons, studios and other client-facing Melbourne business spaces. The flowers are chosen to suit the room, the traffic, the surface and the impression the space needs to make.
- Do we speak directly with the florist?
Yes. You deal directly with Sally or Ton, not a random staff member. If the brief changes, the weather turns, the market behaves badly or something needs adjusting, you speak to the people actually choosing and making the flowers.
- Do you offer weekly corporate flowers in Melbourne?
Yes. Sally Wright Flower Studio creates weekly corporate flowers Melbourne businesses can use for reception desks, office entries, apartment lobbies, hotel foyers, salons, studios and client-facing spaces.
- Can I request a specific flower that's not in season?
Sometimes — some out-of-season flowers can be sourced at a premium, but we’ll always tell you honestly if something isn’t at its best right now, rather than sell you a compromised stem.
- Why does buying in-season flowers matter?
In-season stems are fresher, hold up better, and usually cost less than flowers forced out of their natural window or flown in. It also means every arrangement genuinely reflects the time of year.
- Is lilac in season in September?
Yes — briefly. Melbourne lilac has a short window, September through October, so it’s worth asking for it now rather than waiting.
- What spring flowers are in season in Melbourne right now?
This week’s market run includes tulips, daffodils, ranunculus, sweet peas, garden roses, spring wattle, and flowering foliage like magnolia and pieris.
- when are peonies actually in season in melbourne?
When are peonies actually in season in Melbourne? Peonies run October through December in Melbourne. Anything sold as a “peony arrangement” before October is either an imported (and much pricier) stem, or isn’t a true peony at all.
- Where does Sally Wright Flower Studio deliver real estate styling flowers?
Melbourne’s inner and eastern suburbs, for agents, stylists and private sellers. Flowers are hand-bought at the wholesale market, then delivered and styled in person — no couriers.
- Why work with the same florist for every real estate campaign?
An agent or stylist who calls in the same florist campaign after campaign gets someone who already knows their properties, their usual buyers, and what’s worked before — not someone starting from a generic brief every time. We confirm the brief a few days out, buy fresh from the wholesale market, and deliver and style it ourselves, in person, before the photographer or the first walk-through.
- When does colour work better than white for an open home?
When it’s chosen against the room’s actual palette rather than picked off a supplier list. Warm timber floors and brass fittings can carry a deep red or burnt orange easily, while a cool grey palette with black accents can take a single strong colour note without looking like a mismatch.
- Do real estate styling flowers always have to be white?
No. White is popular because it’s a safe, inoffensive choice that photographs cleanly and doesn’t compete with furniture — but it’s become the default nobody questions. Colour, chosen against the room’s actual palette, is often the better answer.
- Do you deliver outside Melbourne’s inner suburbs?
Sometimes. For larger orders, events or special occasions we can often travel further. Contact us with the address and date and we’ll let you know what’s possible and what the delivery fee will be.
- Can I request specific flowers or colours?
Yes, within reason. You can leave notes at checkout about colours, mood or any must-avoid flowers. Exact varieties depend on what’s in season and in good condition at the market, but we’ll always keep the overall style and value aligned with the product you’ve chosen. if we have any questions we will give you a quick call or email

- Who delivers my order – do you use couriers?
Your flowers are delivered personally by Sally, Ton, or one of our trusted studio drivers – not random gig couriers. It means your arrangement stays upright, cool and in one piece from the studio to the front door. we call this door step luxury.
- Do you have a retail shop I can visit?
We’re a private studio in Moonee Ponds, not a walk-in shopfront. Orders are placed online or by phone, and pickups are by prior arrangement only.
- Do you offer refunds on flowers?
Because flowers are perishable and each order is custom-made, refunds aren’t automatic. We review every situation case-by-case. If we’ve made a mistake, we’ll own it and make it right; if the issue is outside our control (for example, incorrect address), we’ll still do our best to help.
- What if there’s an issue with my order?
If something’s not right, please contact us as soon as possible – ideally on the same day – with your order number and clear photos. We’ll assess what’s happened and work with you on a fix, whether that’s advice, a replacement or another solution.
- What happens if the recipient isn’t home?
If no one is home, we’ll look for a safe, weather-protected spot, or leave the flowers with a neighbour or building concierge where possible and we contact the recipient to let them know. If there’s nowhere suitable, we’ll contact you to arrange re-delivery or a new address – additional delivery and re-wrapping fees may apply.
- Do you deliver hampers on their own, without flowers?
Yes. Hampers can be delivered on their own within our usual delivery area. Delivery fees and timeframes are the same as our flower orders.
- Can I add gifts like candles, chocolate or champagne to my flowers?

Yes. We build custom hampers for corporate gifting, settlement gifts and VIP clients. Tell us the budget, the client type and any brand guidelines, and we’ll design something that feels considered, not generic.
- Can you work with my moodboard or inspiration images?
Absolutely. We use your images as a style guide – colour, shape and vibe – then design something bespoke. Because we buy from the flower market, we can’t copy another arrangement stem-for-stem, but we’ll keep the same mood and level of luxe.
- How far in advance should I book event or wedding flowers?
For smaller events, we recommend getting in touch 2–4 weeks ahead. For weddings and larger events – especially in spring and around Christmas – the more notice the better so we can lock in flowers and timings.
- Do you do flowers for events and weddings?
Yes. We create flowers for intimate weddings, house parties, dinners, brand events and real-estate opens. Everything is designed to suit your space, guest numbers and budget.
- Will my flowers look exactly like the photo during peak periods?
We stay as close as possible to the style and colour palette you’ve chosen, but flower availability changes quickly at the market on peak days. If we need to substitute, we’ll keep the overall look, size and value the same or better.
- How do Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day deliveries work?
On peak days we run set delivery runs rather than exact times. We prioritise suburb runs so everything arrives in the right window and in perfect condition. Spots are limited, so we always recommend ordering early – once our runs are full, we close orders.
- Do you deliver on weekends or public holidays?
Weekend deliveries are available for pre-booked orders; our cut-off for Saturday and Sunday is usually Friday 11:59pm. We don’t deliver on most public holidays unless it’s a major flower day such as Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day.
- Can I request a specific delivery time?
We deliver between 9am and 6pm. If you need a tighter window (for a lunch, event or surprise), select VIP / timed delivery at checkout or contact us – we’ll do our best, and an extra fee may apply.
- Which suburbs do you deliver to?
Our regular run covers Melbourne’s inner suburbs – Toorak, South Yarra, Armadale, Kooyong, Brighton, Essendon, Moonee Ponds, Brunswick, Richmond, Hawthorn and surrounding areas. For deliveries outside this zone, contact us and we’ll let you know if we can help and what the delivery fee will be.
- What time do I need to order by for same-day delivery?
For same-day delivery, please place your order by 11am (Melbourne time), Monday to Friday. Orders placed after 11am will usually be delivered the next business day unless we’ve confirmed otherwise with you.
- Do you offer same-day flower delivery in Melbourne?
Yes. We offer same-day flower delivery from our Moonee Ponds studio across Melbourne’s inner suburbs, including Toorak, South Yarra, Armadale, Essendon, Moonee Ponds, Brunswick, Richmond, Hawthorn and nearby areas. If you’re unsure, just call or text and we’ll check your suburb.
